Landscape Engineer, Mövenpick Resort & Marine Spa Sousse (Tunisia)

Abir Bayoudh

Abir Bayoudh's story

I joined the hospitality industry somewhat by chance; it was not my first career choice at all. But as soon as I started working, I really enjoyed this field. I discovered that it allowed me to do what I love and develop the skills I was looking for, which motivated me to continue on this path.

I began my career in hospitality at Abou Sofiane Hotel in Sousse, where I gained the fundamentals of service and garden maintenance. I worked in various departments, which allowed me to develop skills in team management, landscaping, and coordination with other hotel services.

Since September 2020, I have been working at Mövenpick Resort & Marine Spa in Sousse, part of the Accor group, as a Landscape Engineer. I lead a team of seven, oversee the maintenance and renovation of gardens and green spaces, and implement sustainable practices to optimize irrigation and landscaping. I am also involved in designing and renovating green areas to ensure they integrate harmoniously with the hotel’s overall design, while promoting eco-friendly initiatives.

I coordinate teams, manage equipment and supplies, and collaborate with other departments to ensure an exceptional guest experience. Working at Accor has strengthened my skills in team management, project planning, and landscape innovation. This experience has confirmed that hospitality is a dynamic sector where attention to detail truly enhances the guest experience.

I enjoy being able to have a direct impact on guest satisfaction and contribute to creating memorable experiences. At Accor, I particularly value the attention given to guests and their feedback, as well as the constant support provided to employees. The company encourages us to grow, develop, and always strive to give our best.

I chose this sector because it is a global industry that serves as a key hub, contributing to other sectors such as industry, agriculture, and education. It challenges us every day with new tasks to improve service quality and ensure guest satisfaction, making it a dynamic and rewarding field both professionally and personally.

For me, being a Heartist® means combining heart and art. As a landscape engineer, I work with nature, and it is impossible to do this without love and passion. Designing green spaces is above all an art, long before it is a profession. Like any art, it cannot be done properly without heart. Being a Heartist® perfectly reflects my vision of my role: working with passion and love, while respecting and enhancing nature.

My proudest moments and greatest achievements are linked to projects where I was able to transform an outdoor space into a welcoming and aesthetically pleasing area for hotel guests. For example, creating or renovating gardens, designing terraces, or arranging planted beds that added real value to the guest experience. Seeing visitors enjoy these spaces, relax, take photos, and knowing that my work directly contributes to their satisfaction is what makes me most proud.

I am also proud of having implemented efficient maintenance methods that preserve the beauty of green spaces while optimizing the hotel’s budget and resources. These accomplishments demonstrate that my work combines creativity, technical skill, and a strong sense of service.

I would tell new starters to always work with passion, even behind the scenes, because every detail matters for guest satisfaction. Being attentive, curious, and collaborative makes all the difference in the experience we provide.
