Michel Bessmertnykh's story

When I was studying in Paris, I applied for a job as a breakfast assistant at an ibis. It went so well I became a Night Receptionist and I fell in love with the job. When I came back to my hometown, Strasbourg, I approached an ibis Styles that was opening, which made it interesting.

Working in a hotel that has not yet opened is different because there is so much to handle; there is a brand new system, a new environment you have to adapt to. Opening a hotel is a great experience because you can see how many things you have to do until everything is running smoothly. It’s not perfect yet but we’ll make it! We opened at the end of November 2024.

Each member of staff is careful to be the kindest person; the team spirit is what makes me love this job. I have met a lot of good people who have become friends, and I feel it is mainly an Accor principle to recruit people who fit in well with each other.

I would recommend being an Accor member because you have a lot of benefits – the Heartist® card gives us discounts at Accor hotels worldwide, and because of the warm atmosphere and environment.

Being a Heartist® is all about the guests and putting on a smile on each time, even if something is not going our way and we are not having a good day; it is all about comfort and what the guest has paid for.

I am very proud of opening the hotel and having so many great reviews; it’s doing really well. My proudest accomplishment here is every time I ask a guest how their stay was, they always tell me the staff is amazing and that everything went well. I live my proudest moments every day; I really enjoy working here.

I would advise newcomers, don’t get ahead of yourself and take everything step by step. Be nice to everyone because they all want the property to be a success and you are here to contribute to the team; and keep your mind on the established objectives.
