Hospitality was not my first choice of career – in fact I come from a completely different industry. I started working in a tobacco factory back in the 1980’s where I was for many years, before I heard from a friend that hospitality is a great place to work. I was attracted to hospitality because of the very good environment to work in, great people and positive atmosphere. The rest is history – I’ve been in the industry for 15 years, the last three with Accor!

What I love the most about working at Accor is the multicultural environment and strong, positive relationships with my colleagues. It is like working within a large family that looks after each other in beautiful environment. I work now at the wonderful, newly opened Mövenpick Zagreb – it is a remarkable hotel, full of beautiful art, great technology and architecture. It is a pleasure to work in such a nice environment.

We as housekeepers are working behind the scenes to make sure the hotel guests are satisfied and it is so rewarding to see when guests are happy with their stay and their experience in the rooms. For me, it is also very important to onboard young colleagues and help them in their first steps in the housekeeping department, which isn’t always easy but it is very rewarding. Our super strong team spirit adds to the positive experience, – I love my team and my job!

I can only recommend others to join hospitality as it is super dynamic, positive and multicultural environment. Nowhere else can we meet so many different people and feel that the hotel life is a beating heart 24/7.

Being a Heartist® comes easy to me. I work in the hotel as it is my own home, – I do everything from the bottom of my heart and I treat my colleagues as a family. My personal rewards come from my closest colleagues and their recognition means so much to me. In 2023, I came second in the Employee of the Year Awards, – it was a true highlight!

If you are new to the job, I advise you to work hard and never give up. Soak in the team spirit and take advice from more experienced colleagues as that will allow you to progress quickly. Most importantly – enjoy all moments and come to work with a smile!
