Executive Chef, Novotel Warsaw Airport (Poland)

Bogusława Jerzak's story

I joined the hotel industry by accident, it is not something I initially planned to do in my life. My education is in a completely different direction,-  I initially studied home design and construction.

While looking for a job, I ended up in a newly opened hotel as a Kitchen Assistant. That’s where my journey began and I met wonderful people along the way who taught me so much. I recognised how a professional kitchen works and what an interesting world of gastronomy can be.

I worked in the Rialto hotel for 10 years; I went from being a Kitchen Assistant to Sous Chef, later moving to another hotel to be the Chef. My journey then took me to the Kamienica Theater where I was a cook and later on I opened several small restaurants and a bistro. The life of a chef is definitely always full of new opportunities and challenges and that is what also took me to Novotel Airport in Warsaw.

I joined this team nearly a decade ago in 2016 and I can confidently say I have found my place here. Accor really has an individual approach to employees, and it all comes with great respect and support. For me, being a Heartist® means mutual support in a team – we can always count on each other. Good communication, understanding and a daily smile goes a long way.

The hotel industry is not an easy one, it can be challenging with its stressful situations that you have to act on and not panic. But you really get a satisfaction from the fact that each day is different and we get to meet new people. It is also a great place to build a career even if you don’t have a specialist education, – all you need is passion. If you love what you do and are not afraid of challenges and changes, it always pays off.

The people I work with are really the best colleagues I could wish for, every day we give our all. We support and help each other and the success of the hotel is the achievement from the team work.

To anyone new in the industry, I would say do not be afraid of challenges and give it a try. If you have your eyes on the goal, it all comes in the end.
